What’s so good about Good Friday?

One of the common questions at our home is:  “How was your day?”  Well, we all have good days and we all have days that are more challenging than others…a bad day.  I wonder if we compared our challenging or bad day to the Friday that Jesus had more than two thousand years ago, if we would still feel the same way?

In the wee hours of the morning that Friday, Jesus knew that he was going to be betrayed by someone he considered to be one of his inner circle.  While praying in the garden, Judas approached with the authorities and Jesus was arrested.  He was taken, tried and questioned as if he were a criminal by Pilate and Herod.  Even though both found him innocent, he was flogged.  That wasn’t enough for the people, who, only days before, celebrated Jesus as a peacemaker or King as he entered Jerusalem.  Instead of releasing Jesus, the people cried out to have him crucified.  So far, I don’t think I’ve ever had a day this bad.  Then, all bloodied and battered, Jesus was made to carry the cross on which he was later nailed to and died on.

But the good news is that all things work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to his purposes.  Romans 8:28 So even though this seems like a bad day, everything that Jesus sacrificed throughout that day was made good.  He conquered death, sickness and disease…you name it…it was conquered on that Good Friday!  Hallelujah!!

When a day begins to look as if it may become challenging, remember the One who had the ultimate bad day, overcame it and two days later was resurrected back to life so that we can be coheirs with him.  That’s what is SO good about this Friday!  Jesus.over.came.it.ALL!!

I do, from time to time, feel down and discouraged.  One thing I can say I’m grateful for is learning that I don’t have to let my feelings rule me.

Feelings are fickle.  They can change like the waves of the ocean or the wind.  Unlike the wind and waves, we can control our feelings.  If we allow them to rule us, life will be a series of roller coaster days that can be…well, let’s just say, less than pleasant.

Whatever the issue is that’s causing wavering feelings, set it aside and focus on Jesus.  Praise Him…even if you don’t feel like it.  I assure you nothing but good will come from pressing into and praising the Lord.  He already knows the challenges we’re experiencing and is patiently waiting for us to ask Him for help.

He will never fail us.  He loved us before we were even born! How amazing is that?!  He is delighted by us.  Give yourself to Him daily…you won’t be disappointed.  He has had a plan for our every step or stumble since the day He gave His life up for us on the cross.  It IS a finished work.  We need only tap into what He has supplied for our every need.

It's my intention and goal to...

It's my intention and goal to live my every moment so that my words, actions, thoughts and motives are pleasing to the Lord.  I know, however, that I am an imperfect human and will make mistakes...which is exactly the reason why I need a savior.

God already knows everything I will ever do in my life...good or bad...and...even so...He still loves me.  He made a way for me to overcome it all, but I must choose His ways, which are not always easy, but they're always the best way.

Choose to look to Him in EVERY area of your life.  He will not fail you.  I find that I am continuously surprised at His creativity in the ways that He helps me.  :)
